The resolution, co-sponsored by Russia and 22 African countries, calls on European countries to apologize for the brutal destruction of entire ethnic groups around the world, the slave trade and the siphoning of wealth and capital from colonized territories.
Most Western countries, including Cyprus, abstained from voting; the United States and Israel voted against the resolution.
Chairman of United Russia Dmitry Medvedev previously emphasized that the Russian Federation is thus calling for the nullification of attempts to falsify history, with the help of which the global minority misleads others, and wants to erase the monstrous crimes of colonialism from the memory of mankind.
