The alarm was sounded in Poland on Christmas Day when it was found that a Russian reconnaissance aircraft was flying close to the borders of the country's airspace.
The Russian jet was intercepted by Polish warplanes over the Baltic Sea.
As the Polish army announced, in the morning, the Russian aircraft was visually identified over international waters in the Baltic. Polish fighters escorted it out of their area of responsibility.
In the same announcement it is stated that, during the night, flying objects were detected entering the Polish airspace, coming from Belarus.
NATO's eastern wing nations have been on alert since September for possible violations of their airspace, following repeated incidents in the region.
