On December 11, at the 19 May Stadium, as part of the UEFA Conference League game, a match took place between the Turkish Samsunspor and the Greek AEK.
During the match, in the Turkish stands, Samsunspor fans stretched out the flags of the occupying state of the TRNC. The incident attracted the attention of the Greek media and caused a reaction from the AEK.
The Greek side said that home fans displayed symbols of the unrecognized state during the game, using the international match for a political demonstration.
It is noted that similar actions have been repeatedly recorded at other international games involving Turkish clubs, which raises concerns about violations of UEFA regulations prohibiting political propaganda in stadiums.
The Greek club won with a score of 2:1. The hosts took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to an own goal from Harold Mukudi. In the 52nd minute, Razvan Marin equalized the score. 12 minutes later Abubakari Koita scored.
