On November 15, during a military parade in the occupied territories, Türkiye committed another provocation, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the illegal proclamation of the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Turkish F-16 fighter jets violated the airspace of the Republic of Cyprus, flying over the island.
According to RIK, four Turkish F-16 fighter jets illegally entered Cypriot airspace around 11:30 am from the Famagusta area. Later, two of them flew at low altitude over the buffer zone in the northern part of Kaymakli, causing alarm among local residents.
Cyprus' air defense systems detected the violation, after which the National Guard and the Ministry of Defense reported the incident to the United Nations and other international bodies.
A resident of Nicosia filmed the flight of Turkish planes; the video was published on social networks.
The day before, the Turkish Ministry of Defense posted on its official account on Platform X a photograph of a pilot saluting against the background of the flag of the self-proclaimed state located on Mount Pentadaktylos. The photo was accompanied by the caption: “The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the chapter of a great history!”
The incident caused a sharp reaction in the south of the island, where it is regarded as another demonstrative violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.
