Cyprus summit: will there be a shift under the auspices of the UN?

In Geneva, a summit continues, dedicated to the possibility of resuming negotiations on the issue of Cyprus settlement. On the evening of March 17, the parties were invited by the UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutherresh for dinner. On March 18, bilateral negotiations between the UN Secretary General and representatives of all parties will follow.

The delegation of the Republic of Cyprus, in addition to the President of Christolidis, includes the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Konstantinos Combos, the head of the subinarity for European affairs, Marilena Raun and members of the National Security Council.

On March 17, after dinner, which opened an expanded summit on the Cyprus problem, President Nicos Khristodulidis met with Turkish Foreign Minister Khakan Fidan. None of the participants made public statements on its results, but it is known that Christodulidis decided to convene a meeting of the National Security Council for a second time for several hours to discuss the events of the day. Later, the official representative of the government, Konstantinos Letimbiotis, called the conversation between Christodulidis and Fidan a “brief friendly conversation”, which did not concern the essence of the matter.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Cypriot Turks Ersin Tatars called on "to cooperation between the parties involved." He recalled that Turkish support is important for Turkish-kypriots. “The purpose of this meeting is to find ways for cooperation,” he concluded.

On March 18, the Summit program includes separate meetings of the UN Secretary General with the delegations of the parties, as well as a five -sided meeting in the Palace of Nations.

According to official information, the UN Secretary General individually will meet with the Minister for European, North America and the overseas territories of Great Britain Stephen Dauti, with the head of the Greek Foreign Ministry, Yorgos Geraperitritis, the leader of the Kipriot Turks Ersin Tatar, Turkish Foreign Minister Khakan Fidan and, finally, with President Nicoros Khristodulidis.

Then, a plenary meeting of the conference with the participation of all parties and under the chairmanship of the UN Secretary General will be held in the palace of nations.
