The Republic of Cyprus is ready to take part in a multinational peacekeeping in Ukraine, said Yannis Antoniu, deputy press secretary of the government on Friday, March 28, after a reaction to the statements made on Thursday, President Nicosa Khristodulidis in Paris.
Antoniu informed the Cyprus news agency that Cyprus could help at the administrative and auxiliary level for the humanitarian missions with the participation of members of the National Guard and the police.
“And, of course, under no circumstances, the Republic of Cyprus did not intend to provide troops,” he added.
Antoniu said that the president expressed his readiness to contribute to the formation of the UN mandate for the supervision of security in Ukraine after the conclusion of a peace agreement, like Unifil in Lebanon.
On Friday, Christodulidis will meet in Paris with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Greece Kiriakos Micotakis and President Lebanon Joseph Aun, the day after the Ukraine summit, organized by France.
The representative of the government Konstantinos Letimbiotis said that the leaders will discuss the latest events in Lebanon and the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of the ongoing efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen regional dialogue and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Antoniu said that the leader of the Syrian transition government was invited to take part in a Friday meeting remotely.
He added that the Republic of Cyprus supports any initiatives serving the goals of mutual understanding and cooperation in order to establish stability in the region.
Christodulidis said that the main goal of European countries is to ensure security and stability conditions in Ukraine, which is directly related to safety and stability in Europe. He also said that he expressed the readiness of Cyprus to be presented “in any format” created to ensure such conditions in Ukraine.
