Clamps with the police began in Northern Cyprus

On March 22, clashes occurred in Famagust between students of Eastern Marasso University (EMU) and the police, which became the first similar incident recorded in Northern Cyprus.

Students announced their intention to conduct a march of protest and support in response to the detention of the mayor of Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu. However, the police and units in the fight against riots blocked the university, not allowing the participants to leave the territory.

According to eyewitnesses, the situation remains intense. There are also reports that the police limited the opportunity to leave the city. Details of the incident are clarified.
