According to the recent study of the Eurostat, only 14.3% of the deputies of the Cyprus government are women, which puts Cyprus in the last place among all EU countries.
Hungary took the penultimate place (14.6%), only a little ahead of Cyprus, Romania follows it (19.5%).
The highest share of women representatives is recorded in the northern EU countries. The first place was taken by Sweden with an indicator of 45.6%, followed by Finland with an indicator of 45.5%and Denmark with an indicator of 44.7%.
On average, the share of women in the EU national parliaments increased to 33.4% in 2024, which is 5.6% more than in 2014.
At the government level, the indicators have increased even more: 35.1% of women occupy places in the national government compared to 27.7% in 2014.
Finland leads in the EU ranking with a share of women in 60% of government members. Meanwhile, in Hungary, the share of women in the government is zero.
