On Tuesday morning, August 12, on the beach of Dasudi in Limassol, a case occurred that questioned the sufficiency of safety measures for the swimmers.
About 08:30 a woman for about 65 years old lost consciousness in the water. An eyewitness quickly pulled her ashore and provided first aid before the ambulance arrived. The victim has come into consciousness and is now out of danger.
The incident has aggravated a long problem: rescuers on Dasudi start work only after 10:00, while from 06:00 to 09:00 dozens of people are already bathing on the beach, among whom there are many elderly and representatives of vulnerable groups.
Among the proposed measures is the transfer of the start of the rescuers at 06:00, the installation of additional points with first help and conduct preventive briefings for morning visitors.
Residents of Limassol urge the authorities to urgently revise the work schedule of rescue services in order to prevent the repetition of such cases and increase safety on one of the most popular beaches of the city.
