Scandal in Paphos: a donkey was left in the rain

A video filmed in the Prodromi area of Paphos is going viral on social media, showing a donkey chained up in the pouring rain with no shelter or apparent care.

The video appeared on the page of one of the users and in just a few hours collected hundreds of comments, reposts and outraged reactions.

Many residents of Cyprus said that such treatment of an animal is unacceptable and called on the authorities to intervene immediately. People wrote that the donkey looked cold, scared and completely defenseless from the strong storm that had hit the region in recent days.

According to local media reports, veterinary services and animal protection police have already intervened in the situation. The conditions of keeping the animal and possible violations of the law are now being checked. Let us remind you that in Cyprus there is legislation regulating the humane treatment of animals, and such cases may result in a fine or even imprisonment.

Residents are actively discussing the incident, raising the issue of the need to strengthen control over the living conditions of domestic and farm animals. Many note that cases of abuse are recorded regularly, but remain without consequences.

The situation is still developing, and an official statement from the competent authorities is expected in the coming days.
