In the mainland of China, a large outbreak of Chicungunia virus was recorded - more than 7,000 confirmed cases, of which about 3,000 were detected in just one week.
The geography of distribution is 112 cities of the country. European virologists strengthened the observation, as the virus was already entering the monitoring list in the EU and began to approach the borders of Europe, especially through Italy and France.
At the same time, Italy reports on ten mortal cases caused by the Western Nile virus, and cases of infection are also registered in Greece and in the Balkans.
Judging by the data, the Chikungunya virus was listed in China from the outside, but official sources do not specify the country of origin. Although most cases are described as light or asymptomatic, the rapid spread of infection causes serious fears among scientists.
The Chinese government has already begun a large -scale campaign to combat mosquitoes: residents are issued fines for non -compliance with sanitary norms, and drones use drones to control the hard -to -reach areas. One of the main measures was the destruction of standing water - an ideal environment for the propagation of the carriers of the virus.
According to the latest data, 49 cases are confirmed in France, 13 of them are within the same chain. Two cases have been recorded in Italy. So far, the virus is not transmitted from person to person - you can get infected only through the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms include high temperature, sharp pain in the joints, headaches, nausea, rash and general weakness.
Mosquitoes that carry the virus also live in Cyprus, so local authorities keep the situation under control and observe.
Interestingly, the very word Chicungunia comes from the language of Maconde, common in Tanzania and Mozambique, and translated means “the one who bent” is a reference to severe pain in the joints, causing a characteristic pose of patients.
About 80% of the infected do not show symptoms, and only about 1% of cases can lead to serious consequences. Nevertheless, the virus requires increased attention - both from sanitary services and from the population.
