This was announced by the head of the Environmental Protection Department, Theodulos Mesimeris, referring to the preliminary results of the samples.
According to him, there is a single protocol used on all beaches of Cyprus in accordance with national legislation and the European directive. In cases where the indicators exceed permissible norms, residents and tourists are recommended to temporarily refrain from bathing.
Additional water tests were taken on Saturday. The final data is expected over the next two days, after which a new conclusion will be published on the suitability of the bathing water area.
Mesimeris noted that the problem is local in nature and, according to its assessment, sea water will naturally be cleaned for several days.
