In the evening on Thursday, August 1, 2025, the Paphos police conducted an urgent rescue operation after a alarm call to number 112.
A foreigner, who can hardly speak English, said that he was in thick vegetation and cannot move due to health problems. He asked for help, but could not accurately indicate his location.
The first information from the caller indicated the area of the coastal zone of Geroskip, but the searches along the coast did not give a result. Salvation became possible after re -connection with a man when he gave a more detailed description of the environment.
According to the assistant chief of the Pafos, Mikhalis Nikolau, the employees suspected that we were talking about the hard -to -reach coastal zone "URERKI" in the Chloraki area. Around 21:20 the victim was found exhausted and partially immobilized among the reeds. The police promptly evacuated him.
It turned out that a man is a 61-year-old foreigner, a tourist who arrived at Cyprus. He was taken to the reception department of the Paphos Hospital, where he was provided with first medical care. After the examination, his condition was appreciated as stable, and he was discharged that evening.
This case was a reminder of the importance of a quick reaction of emergency care services in Cyprus, especially during the high tourist season. Thick coastal vegetation, heat and limited knowledge of the language can create deadly situations.
Tourists and vacationers in secluded areas are recommended:
Always keep a charged phone at hand. Establish applications with geolocation (for example, What3words, Google Maps with a geomete function). Do not take walks alone in an unfamiliar area, especially in the evening. Understand emergency rooms: 112 is a universal number in Cyprus.
