Turkey says Russia gave it $9 billion for the Akuyu nuclear power plant

Within 2026, the nuclear power plant in Akugiou, in Mersini, opposite Cyprus, will be put into operation, the Turkish Energy Minister said.

Russia announced today that it has provided $9 billion in new financing for Turkey's first nuclear power plant, which is being built by Russia's state-owned nuclear power company Rosatom.

Rosatom is building the nuclear plant under a 2010 deal at an initial cost of $20 billion.

The station was expected to be operational this year, but has been delayed.
