Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute Launches Its First Spinout – Nautonomy

The Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI) proudly announces the establishment of its first spinout company, Nautonomy Ltd, a groundbreaking step in its mission to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy.

Nautonomy Ltd focuses on the development and deployment of autonomous and intelligent maritime technologies, offering transformative solutions for the global shipping, marine operations, and ocean monitoring industries. By bridging cutting-edge research with market-driven applications, the company will contribute to Cyprus's position as an emerging hub for marine and maritime innovation.

"The creation of Nautonomy Ltd is a milestone for CMMI and for Cyprus," said Zacharias Siokouros, CEO of CMMI. “It demonstrates our ability not only to generate world-class research, but also to translate that knowledge into tangible, market-ready solutions that bring economic, social, and environmental value.”

The establishment of Nautonomy Ltd highlights CMMI's role as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer, and the commercialization of marine technologies. By driving innovation and building the capacity to develop advanced systems locally, this initiative directly supports Cyprus's national strategy for strengthening the commercial exploitation of research and achieving technological independence in priority sectors such as defense and security.

Reflecting this vision, Christos Keleshis, Director and co-founder of Nautonomy, noted, "Unlike most companies in Cyprus that focus solely on assembly, Nautonomy develops the entire technology domestically — right here in Cyprus."

Building on this perspective, co-founder and Director Christos Constantinides, added "This isn't just a startup; it's a movement. We are here to disrupt, inspire, and lead a transformation that will echo for generations."
