Disagreement continues over the amount of the upcoming increase in the minimum wage.
Speaking to the Morning Itinerary, the general director of OEB, Michalis Antoniou, stated that the decision of the Council of Ministers significantly exceeds the percentage that could be documented by the economic data.
He said the increase in the minimum wage is approaching 9%, while inflation is below 2%.
At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of passing on the costs of the increase to the citizens.
From the trade union side, the general secretary of the PEO, Sotiroula Charalambous, characterized the minimum wage as extremely important, arguing that the percentage increase decided by the government is a step back.
He said that the trade unions will coordinate their actions, asking the government to review its decision before issuing the relevant decree.
On the same wavelength were the reports of the general secretary of the Greek Federation of Greek Orthodox Churches, Andreas Matsa, who emphasized that the groups that receive the minimum wage are the most vulnerable of the population.
He underlined that the setting of a minimum wage has not had a negative effect on either employment or productivity.
In addition, the representatives of the trade unions expressed displeasure that in the minimum wage revision decree, provision for hourly wages is not included.
