The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, is sounding the alarm for a world immersed in chaos.
In his New Year's message, he calls on world leaders to take responsibility and put people and the planet first.
Enough of the suffering, Mr. Guterres stresses, adding: "Our future depends on our ability to collectively find the courage to act."
Calling 2025 a turbulent year, Guterres reports that international military spending has risen by nearly 10 percent to $2.7 trillion.
This is, he notes, an amount 13 times more than the total development aid and equivalent to the gross domestic product of the whole of Africa.
