There are 175,000 legally resident third-country nationals in the Republic of Cyprus.
In addition to these, there are still 16,000 legally in Cyprus for whom the examination of an application for international protection is pending, as well as another 6,000 who have appealed, after the rejection of their application, who also reside legally in Cyprus.
The figures were heard at the Finance Committee of the Parliament, where the Deputy Minister of Immigration, Nikolas Ioannidis, presented the budget of the Deputy Ministry for 2026.
Responding to MPs' questions, the Deputy Minister explained that it is not easy to calculate how many people live illegally in the Republic of Cyprus.
He noted, however, that the number is significantly reduced, given the 89% reduction in irregular arrivals and applications for international protection from 2022, as well as record numbers of departures, he said.
