Limassol Marina hosts Art Explora Festival museum-ship

The city of Limassol recently had the honour of hosting this year’s Art Explora Festival, a pioneering travelling exhibition that sails across the Mediterranean Sea, offering a unique cultural and artistic experience, free of charge and open to all.

As part of this cultural initiative, Limassol Marina proudly welcomed the impressive catamaran Art Explorer, the world’s first and largest floating museum ever built, measuring 47 metres in length.

Among the partners of the Art Explora Foundation are the Louvre Museum, UNESCO and the European Union’s Office for Culture, while this initiative brings art and culture closer to people in original and alternative spaces, covering 15 Mediterranean countries.

From October 25 to November 4, 2025, the museum-ship was moored at Limassol Marina, hosting two captivating on-board experiences: a sound installation focusing on the richness and diversity of the Mediterranean, and a journey through time and space, where visitors had the opportunity to explore life in the ancient cities of Alexandria, Athens and Venice via the “Mediterranean Wonders” virtual reality series. In parallel, various events and presentations were held at selected venues throughout the city.

During its voyage, the ship visited countries such as Malta, Italy, France, Morocco, Spain and Greece, with Cyprus serving as the floating museum’s final stop for 2025.

The choice of Limassol Marina as the host venue for the world’s first floating museum was the result of three years of intensive preparation and collaboration, attracting thousands of visitors within just 10 days and confirming the city’s standing as a cultural destination of international significance.

This collaboration seamlessly connected art, culture and creativity, bringing together artists, curators and cultural institutions. The Art Explora Festival represents a groundbreaking cultural initiative, offering immersive artistic and cultural experiences, enhancing audience engagement and creating a truly unique celebration of creativity, inspiration and cultural dialogue.

The Art Explora Festival programme in Cyprus was curated by The Island Club, a non-profit exhibition space based in Limassol and founded in 2017. As a member of the Art Explora Foundation’s artistic team, The Island Club was responsible for bringing the Art Explora Festival to Cyprus, playing a key role in its implementation and artistic curation.
