A tragic road accident occurred on Monday afternoon, November 3, in the Limassol area, when a 60-year-old cyclist died instantly after colliding with a car.
The man, Günther Kohrgruber, was participating in an amateur cycling race with friends, returning from a route in the Platanskia area. At about 13:10 on the Pissouri-Plataniskii road, he drove into the oncoming lane, where a collision occurred with a car.
According to Limassol police, the 32-year-old driver of the sedan was driving towards Plataniskiia when the collision occurred. The circumstances of the accident are now being carefully studied. It is known that the other three cyclists from the group were slightly ahead and, without noticing their comrade, returned along the route. They found him already without signs of life on the side of the road.
All participants in the cycling trip traveled from Paphos, transporting their bikes to Limassol by van for a scenic ride through Pissouri and Plataniskia.
Police say the driver of the vehicle was tested for alcohol and drugs and the results were negative. The cyclist was wearing a crash helmet, but his injuries were non-life-threatening. The area of the accident was cordoned off, and Limassol traffic police officers and accident reconstruction specialists from the Police Headquarters worked on the scene.
The investigation continues to study eyewitness accounts and analyze recordings from surveillance cameras located near the scene of the tragedy.
