In Cyprus, 4,096 serious crimes were recorded between January and September 2025, Justice Minister Marios Chartziotis said at a meeting of Parliament's Finance Committee on Tuesday, November 4.
This is 5.27% more than during the same period in 2024, when 3,891 similar cases were recorded.
The detection rate for serious crimes this year was 77.78%, which is slightly lower than last year's 81.29%. The minister clarified that these statistics also include drug-related crimes.
He also noted that the worst clearance rates are observed in cases involving the destruction of property using explosives, arson and theft.
During the same session, Police Chief Themistoklis Arnaoutis spoke about the challenges the law enforcement system faces in modernizing technology. According to him, he approached the Minister of Finance for support, and received consent to move forward with the purchase of specialized services, since the state does not currently have the necessary technical expertise.
