The Ministry of Defense of Cyprus announced that the military parade dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the country's independence will begin on October 1 at 9:00, and not at 11:00, as previously reported.
The solemn event will be held in the presence of President Nicos Christolidis. In connection with the parade, traffic in the area of Joseph Hadjiosif in Strevolos will be limited. The movement will be completely blocked from the intersection with Spiros Avenue Cyprian to the GSP stadium.
Cyprus gained independence on August 16, 1960, but in the early 1960s the celebration was postponed to October 1 to avoid summer heat. Since 1979, this date has been officially fixed as a national holiday.
