On Thursday, May 1, on the first day of the Teknofest aerospace technique festival, which was held at the Ercan (Timbu) airport in the north of Cyprus, an emergency occurred.
Due to the strong gust of wind, a 20-meter metal structure used to place loudspeakers and advertising boards fell.
Under the rubble were two British citizens-56-year-old Phil Conki and 55-year-old Paul Savij. Both were urgently hospitalized in the hospital of Dr. Burkhan Nalbantoglu in the northern part of Nicosia, where they carried out surgical operations. One of the victims is in the intensive care unit with severe traumatic brain injury.
Another person-67-year-old Nurjikhan Kalude-received minor injuries when trying to escape from the falling structure. He was given first aid on the spot.
The leader of the Cipriot Turks Ersin Tatars, as well as the Prime Minister Unal, and the Minister of Health Hakan Dincurere visited the victims in the hospital. The lobe said that, despite the seriousness of the incident, the fortune of both British is stable and is under control. He expressed hope for their speedy recovery.
The festival was also accompanied by a transport collapse-the road between the airport and the motorway Nikosia-Famagusta was blocked due to the large influx of visitors. In this regard, the Ercan airport administration recommended travelers to come at least three hours before departure and avoid the main road.
On the first day of Teknofest, more than 60,000 people attended the event. Speaking to the participants, Ersin Tatars emphasized the importance of the festival for the future technological development of the region and noted that the youth involved in such events plays a key role in the formation of an effective economic structure.
