Residents of the Ayos Afanasios district, not far from the sphalangiotis cemetery, became witnesses to the heartbreaking scene: on the ground lay the bodies of eight dead cats - mothers and its seven kittens.
According to zoo defenders, animals, most likely, someone deliberately launched into the street, where they were defenseless before the dog attack. Eyewitnesses say: the kittens were too small to escape or hide. They had no chance to escape.
According to local animal protection organizations, the tragedy in Afanasios is not the first such incident. Such stories, alas, took place here before. This time, according to residents, we are not talking about homeless people, but about home dogs, which the owners regularly release on a self -riding - unattended and a leash.
A logical question arises: why is no one to be responsible for this? One of the witnesses published a photo of the dead kittens and accompanied them with words that do not leave indifferent:
“Not to love animals is your personal business. But throwing them to the mercy of fate is already an act of cruelty. Such indifference is our common destruction. ”
He also urged state bodies to finally pay attention to what was happening and stop ignoring disturbing signals from citizens.
According to the current legislation of Cyprus, the responsibility for dog behavior lies exclusively on their owners. The law clearly prohibits uncontrolled walking, especially in residential areas. At the same time, the attack of the animal - whether on a person or another creature - can lead to serious legal consequences.
Nevertheless, the situation in some areas of Limasol remains alarming: the dogs left without control roam the streets, and the consequences are tragic. In the case of the abandoned cats, the tragedy became the result of a chain of human irresponsibility - those who left them, and those who do not follow their pets. But in the end, not only animals suffer. The whole society suffers, in which this becomes the "norm".
