On August 29, the Customs Department and the police of the Republic of Cyprus conducted a raid in Protaras to combat counterfeit products. 10,877 counterfeit brands of clothing, toys, underwear and shoes were seized from four stores, including a shipment of Barbie flip-flops.
The owners of the outlets admitted that they violated laws on the protection of intellectual property. In three cases, agreements were reached on the payment of out-of-court fines totaling €2,475. In the fourth case, the agreements have not yet been finalized.
In two stores they were found242packs of cigarettes. They did not have unique codes and standard inscriptions in Greek and Turkish about the dangers of smoking. Their absence indicates that customs duties were not paid when importing these tobacco products into the Republic of Cyprus.
The Customs Department has once again appealed to the public to be very careful when purchasing as there are thousands of products in the market that are not genuine and therefore do not meet the requirements for the products they are copying..
In general, remind the customs authorities of the Republic of Cyprus, you should be aware that counterfeit products:
produced using unethical processes and forced labor of children, is dangerous or harmful to human health, and in some cases even leads to death, the proceeds from its sale are often used to finance organized crime and terrorism.Article on the topic
