In a positive and friendly atmosphere, the meeting of President Christodoulidis, Tufan Erhiurman and the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General, Maria Angela Holgin, took place.
The meeting took place at the old Nicosia airport and lasted three hours and twenty minutes.
According to a United Nations announcement, the two leaders agreed that the real goal is the solution of the Cyprus problem with political equality, as described in the Security Council Resolutions.
It is also stated that confidence-building measures are important for creating a favorable environment, but are not a substitute for achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem.
It is added that they discussed new ideas and agreed to focus on reaching agreements as soon as possible, especially on the issue of opening new crossing points, the issue of haloumi, as well as the construction of pipelines from the Mias Milia water treatment plant
They also agreed to increase the staff for the services required at the crossing points and welcomed the road widening works at the Agios Dometio crossing point.
The two leaders reiterated their commitment to participate in the next informal meeting in a broader composition, to be convened by Antonio Guterres.
