The capital of Cyprus is changing: Nicosia Municipality upgrades Lidra and Onasagoru streets in the Old Town

The Nicosia Municipality is starting to upgrade the pedestrian streets of Lidra and Onasagoru in the Old Town. As told by Phileleftheros

Mayor Charalambos Pruntzos, 12 million euros have been allocated for this improvement project. From the beginning of 2026, restoration of the building facades will begin. Improvements to storefronts and signage will continue. This,

according to the mayor, it should radically improve the visual appearance of central streets.

Charalambos Pruntzos recalled that shade canopies have already been installed on pedestrian streets and special platforms have been created at the entrances to shops and cafes to provide access to them for people with disabilities. The municipality has also tightened micromobility regulations to address concerns about e-scooters and bicycles on pedestrian streets and sidewalks.

For the first time, the municipality is hiring for the renovation of the Old Town

He will monitor the quality of work and the schedule for their implementation, coordinate all project participants, promptly resolve possible problems and communicate with residents and entrepreneurs of the capital. The authorities will conduct a competitive selection for this position. The contract amount is 75,000 euros. Applications for participation in the competition will be accepted until January 9, 2026.
