The common ideas and common vision shared by Italy and Cyprus were mentioned by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister of Italy during their joint statements after the private meeting they had in Rome. The two leaders agreed to start discussions on drawing up a joint partnership document to address the common challenges of the two countries. President Christodoulidis thanked the Italian Prime Minister for the hospitality and the very productive discussion which, as he mentioned, confirmed the excellent cooperation between the two countries. In his statement, the President of the Republic noted the close cooperation in energy matters with the Italian company ENI, which operates in the Cypriot EEZ, while equally important he mentioned is the cooperation in defense and security matters with joint exercises and trainings. The President also informed Giorgia Meloni about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, expressing the belief that Italy's relations with Turkey can lead to positive developments.
The Italian Prime Minister expressed her joy that their second meeting takes place at an important moment for Nicosia and Rome as Cyprus presides over the Council of the European Union. Cyprus and Italy are two Mediterranean countries that are located in a maritime space that is a crossroads of the world, said Giorgia Meloni and said that history and geography have given shape to the relations and history of the two countries and will give body and shape to their common future.
He referred to the role of the Mediterranean Sea in the coming years, stressing that it can be a connecting link between West and East and a strategic point for trade, energy, security and stability. She emphasized that this is why both she and President Christodoulidis have worked together in recent years, in Brussels and at the summits but also in the context of the Mediterranean States' meeting.
