Tips for parents on getting their children ready for school

The Cyprus Consumer Association conducted a study of the school goods market and issued recommendations that should help parents take a rational approach to getting their children ready for school.

Prices were checked both in the stores themselves and online on the company’s websites. In general, the cost of accessories remained the same as last year, only some items became more expensive. Many stores offer lower prices when shopping online.

The Association publishes the following data on prices for school goods:

– School backpack: from 3.99 to 209.95 euros. – Penalty: from 0.79 to 51.40 euros. – Pencils, pens, felt-tip pens: from 0.13 to 14.99 euros. – Notebooks 50-100 pages: from 0.39 to 9.99 euros. – Folders: from 0.30 to 5.95 euros. – School T-shirts: from 3.99 to 29.5 euros. – School pants: from 6 to 26 euros. – School skirts: from 11.5 to 25 euros.

The Cyprus Consumer Association reminds parents of useful practices before the start of the school year:

– Create a list of necessary things before going to the store. – Explain to children the difference between what is desired and what is really needed. – Research and compare prices and quality of products. – Choose items appropriate to the child’s age. – Do not buy items for children that look or smell like food. – Select a backpack that matches the child’s physical condition. – Study the return policy for purchased goods. – Help children understand that school items are needed for learning, not for display.
