The Cultural Choice Movement addresses the Deputy Ministry of Culture and expresses its strong concern for the ongoing uncertainty regarding the planning of cultural activities for 2026.
To date:
• The results of the CULTURE III program have not been announced.
• The Cyprus Arts Festival has not been announced.
This situation creates serious obstacles to our strategic planning. Artistic productions require early preparation, commitment of artists, collaborations with creators from Cyprus and abroad and clear financial planning. The prolonged absence of official information objectively limits the possibility of implementing quality and outward-looking actions.
Prolonged uncertainty does not only affect individual productions but weakens the country's cultural ecosystem as a whole.
The situation in which Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union is particularly important. At a time when culture is projected at the European level as a strategic pillar of development and social cohesion, internal cultural policy must be characterized by consistency, transparency and predictability.
Timely and reliable information is not a convenience for the operators. It is an institutional obligation of the State towards culture and the people who serve it.
The Cultural Choice Movement requests immediate official information on the schedules of the programs and ensuring institutional continuity.
Civilization cannot function in a perpetual state of standby.
Stability is a condition of quality, reliability and substantial international presence.
