UN Secretary-General condemns Israeli law that cuts off electricity and water to Aid Office

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, condemns the decision of the Knesset to prohibit by law the electricity and water supply to the facilities of the Relief Office for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

According to his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, the law passed by the Israeli parliament will further limit the work of the relevant UN agencies.

The Commissioner General of the Relief Office, Philip Lazzarini, spoke of a scandalous decision, and a continuation of the effort to discredit his agency and to put obstacles in its work to grant aid to Palestinian refugees.

In 2024, the Knesset banned the agency from operating in Israeli territory and any public functionary or official from working with it. As a result, the Palestine Refugee Agency operates only in east Jerusalem, which is considered by the United Nations to be Palestinian territory under Israeli occupation.
