The Republic of Cyprus assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union with a clear vision: a strong, stable and secure Europe, an autonomous Union open to the world, says President Christodoulidis.
In a message on the occasion of assuming the Presidency of the Union, the President of the Republic notes that Cyprus is responding to this juncture in a period of radical changes.
In an environment of geopolitical turmoil and uncertainty, he adds, the choices we make today will shape the Union's future.
He underlines that autonomy is the necessary next step in the evolutionary path of European integration.
"We will work", he stresses, "as honest brokers, with determination, to strengthen Europe's defense and security, including water and maritime security, as well as tackling migration in a holistic way and we will strengthen the Union's preparedness in crisis management".
In his message, President Christodoulidis also states that support to Ukraine for the defense of international law, its territorial integrity and sovereignty, will remain firm and unwavering.
