President Christodoulidis sent the message that support to Ukraine will be a key political priority during the Cypriot Presidency as well, to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to a written statement by the Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymiotis, the two leaders had a telephone conversation in the afternoon, following Zelensky's initiative, during which the Ukrainian President congratulated the President of the Republic on assuming the Presidency.
He even informed him that he will attend the official opening ceremony of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, on January 7.
At the same time, the President of Ukraine informed his Cypriot counterpart about the developments and the international peace efforts being made to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
President Christodoulidis reiterated Cyprus' firm and timeless commitment to supporting the Ukrainian people, sovereignty, independence and free will of Ukraine.
He said that this attitude stems from the same values and principles that guide the Republic of Cyprus, which is experiencing the tragic consequences of the illegal invasion and occupation.
