Limassol, Polemidia, Apollo

Limassol, Polemidia, Apollo

*by Theocharis Theocharis

For the Limassol entry, the Babiniotis dictionary mentions three different versions of its etymological origin. This note is intended to announce a new version of the etymological origin of the neighboring names Limassol and Polemidia, which I discovered in 2005. The scribe calls on the competent experts, if any, to evaluate it.

We observe that: As (and as recorded on the maps) Palaipafos and Paphos, so is an altar and a sophomore, so both the priests and the Geroskipou, so on Lefkothea and Nicosia, so both Evagorion and Avgorou, so are Olympia and Lymbia, so and Palaikros whose recent inhabitants in the Greek Cypriot dialect call it jirkas, etc. Based on these and other similar observations, the scribe has devised the following dual theory (ie two {possibly independent} theories):

(a) Limassol's name was etymologically from the neighboring name Polemidia.

(b) Etymologically the name Polemidia emerged from an ancient name APPLIANCE.

Today's neighboring toponyms of Limassol and Polemidia are located on the border of the ancient kingdoms of Kourion (west) and Amathous (east). Kourion's first deity was Apollo Ylatis. The first deity of Amathus (and all of Cyprus) was Venus. For the writer there is a serious archaeological indication that the second deity of Amathus (as well as all of Cyprus) was Apollo, and these elements are based on the theory for an ancient name Apollomidia (or Apollo?) In the area, similar to the well -known (Asia Minor). Like Nicomedia "has the Medea of the goddess Niki", APOLLOMEDIA "Has the Medean of the God Apollo", and similarly Diomedes, Archimedes, etc.

The word of the Greek language "Medea" is obviously etymological with the words Musa, Mittis, Mittis, Mid, Mid, Manthem, Lesson, Mathematics, Removing, Procurement, Proc, Mentor, Mentor, Mentor, Mind, Mental, Mentor, Medite, Meditation, Dementia, Mathematics, Polymath, ... The meanings of the word "Medea" are intellect, invention, intellect, thought, calculus, meditation, learning, knowledge, intelligence, ingenuity, female, wisdom ...

The scribe wishes to widely disclose the remarkable saying of the wise Solon "Apollo [is] the source of every wisdom", which is the selected (that is, the conclusion in the epilogue) of the remarkable book "HUMAN AND TECHNOLOGY Limassol 2011.

Of all the gods, Apollo is the most complex, wise, diverse, multifaceted, multifaceted, multi -dimensional, multifaceted, multifaceted, many gods. Apollo is the predominantly god of the Greeks. The Romans match all their own gods, one with those of the Greeks, except with Apollo that only the Greeks had such a unique God. So, as their commendable cultural tradition and practice were, the Romans at a certain time added to their "Pantheon" (that is, the center of their religious existence) the new God for them "Apollo".

At this point the scribe wants to express the following questions: Is it known in the official science of History / Historiography when did this happen? Also, the "Pantheon" building that is preserved to this day in Rome dates from the 1st century BC. - 2nd century AD Was there in Rome or elsewhere ancient pantheon? Was the name "Pantheon" (which is a word in the Greek language!) Invention of Rome or loan from somewhere else?

Apollo is the god of scientific prediction, divination, and prophecy. The Delphi oracle was part of the Temple of Apollo, on Mount Parnassos, where the Muses, the deities of the arts lived in his forests. One version is that the Muses had a mother of Mitida, the first wife of Zeus and the goddess patrons of engineering, technique, etc., and inspiration for inventive, innovative, inventors, and scientists. Therefore the words and phrases of today's Western European languages "Montparnasse", "Parnassian", "Parnassian Poetry", "Parnassian Olympics" (which was part of the London 2012 Olympics) etc. have a very close relationship with Apollo. Hence the "Apollo Theater" of London.

"Apollo Apollo", that is, "I swear to the Apollo doctor" - with this (not so well -known) proposal that the well -known Hippocrates oath begins.

Apollo is also the god of the patron of seafarers and trade. The Apollo High School is also the god of truth, the sun, the light, and of the Enlightenment (hence the School Lyceum). Apollo is also the god of poetry, harmony, music in general and lyric in particular.

Apollo Ylatis (of Kourion) is the god of forest, tree, wood, laurel, logging, logistics, rejuvenation and renewal. (We also recall the saying: "Forests are the lungs of the earth"). Knowing today that through the chemical reaction known as "photosynthesis" in the leaves of all plants, sunlight and radiation is the source of almost all energy that all living organisms (and man) of the earth are needed and used, we must declare Apollo, and as a goddess,

All the above, therefore, explains NASA's decision to baptize "Apollo Spacecraft" all the spaceships that were transported by people from the Earth to the Moon (1969-1972).

Some years ago, the Limassol Branding Project was founded to highlight Limassol. This work provides a lot of useful information for this purpose. Even if the proposed theory of "Apollomia" is not confirmed, the municipal authorities of Limassol have enough right to proclaim Apollo as the god of Limassol, as Paphos has Aphrodite. It should be noted, the Apollo Kydi was certainly in ancient Greco -Roman culture but also in today's global technological culture superior to the Aphrodite Kid.
