In Cyprus, the Day of Independence is celebrated on October 1st. Normally Cyprus gained its independence on August 16 and October 1 was later set to celebrate independence. The anniversary is celebrated with special holidays in schools and a large military parade in Nicosia.
On the night of the 15th of August 16, 1960, at 2 after midnight in Nicosia, Cyprus Governor Hugh Fout read in the hall of the Transitional Council (which later became a mansion of the House of Representatives) the announcement of the Queen
Afterwards, the Consulates of Greece and Turkey G. Christopoulos and V. Tourel, Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios III and Vice President Fazil Kyoutsuk, after their short speeches, signed with the latest English ruler. Shortly before noon on August 16th, the British flag was undermined at the Governor's mansion and the pride of the Cyprus. Before closing 24 hours after the proclamation of Cyprus's independence, Sir Hyu Fout had already left Cyprus.
On July 11, 1963, the Council of Ministers decided to establish as an official day of Cyprus's independence on October 1, so that the anniversary is celebrated at all prices and in the presence of international diplomatic bodies. August 16th is included in the summer holidays in the country, a period during which foreign ambassadors are absent in their countries.
