The Cyprus Consumers Association said it had recently received an unusually high number of complaints about car repair shops. She released tips on how not to be deceived at a car service center.
And the main problems are: failure to eliminate the reported damage (when paying for specific damage), unclear description of the work performed and payment for work that was not related to the damage.
The Cyprus Consumer Association advises taking the following steps to avoid being deceived and overpaying for the service.
– Describe in writing the damage that needs to be repaired, even if the car is sent in for a scheduled service. Ask for written confirmation of acceptance of the machine into the workshop with the date and list of repair requirements.
– Request the results of an inspection of the damage before making decisions about its repair. Find out the estimated cost of possible repairs before starting work.
– Request a receipt upon completion of work describing the work done, parts and materials used and their cost.
– When purchasing a used car, it is recommended to take it to a mechanic to assess its condition, and also to take the car to a service center after purchase.
