Students of gymnasiums and lyceums will be able to come to school in shorts in the summer months, but the style will be determined by the school after consultation with parents and the children themselves. This decision was made by the Ministry of Education.
According to the current rules, gymnasium students must wear black or gray full-length trousers, and lyceum students must wear dark blue or black jeans without inscriptions or torn parts. Shorts and short skirts are prohibited for both students and teachers.
However, the Ministry of Education is ready to slightly relax the strictness of the rules on school uniforms and allow shorts. This is stated in the circular sent by the department to educational institutions on May 27. The contents of the document became known only now, after a parliamentary request to the department from parliamentarian Chrysanthos Savvidis. The circular empowers school authorities to allow students to wear shorts during hot months. The school administration must consult with the Central Student Council and the Parents and Guardians Association to determine the style of shorts permitted.
Let us recall that in September, students of Cypriot schools boycotted classes due to uncomfortable learning conditions. Among their complaints was a ban on wearing shorts.
