The pheasant hunting season has started. Game Department spokesman Petros Anagiotis said 20,000 hunters opened the season on August 25.
Petros Anagiotis stressed that all hunters are required to register in the Artemis Cy app and report information about the prey they caught.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, a department spokesman said that on the first day of the season, five violators were caught hunting in a protected area. There was one violation in Paphos, one in Larnaca and three in Limassol.
For this, violators will receive two fines of 3,000 euros each: for carrying a hunting weapon in a prohibited hunting area and for hunting itself in a prohibited area.
Petros Anagiotis said that employees of the Department of Game Management are always on the ground and monitor the situation in hunting areas around the clock. These measures and the use of the Artemis Cy app have significantly reduced poaching incidents.
The Department of Game Management issues about 500 fines a year. Typically, violations are associated with hunting in protected areas, lack of a license, lack of training and marking of hunting dogs, and hunting of songbirds.
