The Police arrested a 44-year-old foreigner this morning in connection with a case of attempted arson of a beer bar at dawn in Limassol.
According to a police announcement, around 4:30 in the morning today, information was received by the Police about an attempt to set fire to a beer bar in the Zakaki area of Limassol.
Members of the Police rushed to the scene, where they found a motorcycle without registration plates, a canister of flammable material, an explosive device, and other evidence in the vicinity of the said property.
Nearby, an injured person was found, who, according to testimony, was the one who tried to set fire to the property in question and was chased by citizens, including the 28-year-old owner of the beer bar.
The person in question was taken under guard to the Limassol Hospital where he was detained for treatment. As it was established, this is a 44-year-old man from Sri Lanka, who resides illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and was arrested.
A subsequent investigation into the explosive device found at the scene by a Police pyrotechnician determined that it was an improvised metallic explosive object.
