On August 23, the signing of a Cultural Agreement between Cyprus and Greece took place in Cyprus, aimed at further strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, who arrived in Cyprus on an official visit, emphasized the importance of this step in her statements.
Yesterday Ms. Mendoni visited the exhibition “Kassialos: from light to shadow” at the Costas Argyrou Museum in Mazoto. She noted that “a visit to Cyprus is a twinning in a country that we love and respect very much, especially in this year, the year of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion, which still affects the history of both our countries.”
The signing ceremony of the interstate agreement took place on Friday at noon in the Faneromeni library. Before this, at 11:00, Ms. Mendoni visited the Cyprus Museum and met with the National Committee for the Suppression of Illicit Trafficking and Trafficking in Cultural Heritage.
As part of the visit, early Friday morning, the Greek Minister of Culture laid a wreath at Makedonitissa's grave, met with Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus and visited the Leventis Museum and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. There she was introduced to the exhibition “The Island of Cyprus: History – Memory – Reality”. Mendoni's visit will end on Saturday with a tour of the Larnaca Provincial Archaeological Museum.
The day before, Mendoni also visited Nicosia City Hall, where the mayor of the city, Charalambos Pruntzos, gave her a tour of the Green Line and the renovated Old Market.
