A large fossilized tree trunk, rescued on Lesvos, with its branches intact, in the volcanic materials that covered it 18 million years ago, is of global interest.
The trunk was found in 2020, during excavation work to open a road.
This week, the scientists of the Museum of Natural History of the Lesvos Petrified Forest began the work of protecting and highlighting the fossilized trunk.
This is a rare find, as it is the first time a fossilized tree with its branches has been found.
