A protest outside the Foreign Ministry in Nicosia took place on Thursday afternoon, following an emergency call addressed by the World Movement for Gaza Cyprus, in response to the reflection of the Sumudilla Solidarity Flotilla and its detention.
Tension occurred at some point when, according to the organizers of the event, police forces, who were not on the spot but arrived there a few minutes after the start of the protest, moved towards the protests and followed. The organizers also said that the police were used by the police, referring to a "unexpected attack".
A press officer of the Police Headquarters told the CPC that the role of the police station in the field of protest had to do with the traffic regulation. "There was policing for security reasons, at some point the protesters entered the road, cutting off one lane, the police cut the second lane for the safety of the same and others who used the road," the police press officer said. He added that, according to the information it received, the road opened around 8:00 pm, but police forces remained in the area, as a small number of protesters remained.
Asked about tear gas use, he said that he did not receive any information and that he was not able to deny or confirm the information.
The protest was supported by other organizations, such as United for Palestine and the Peace Peace Council, shouting, among other things, slogans to end genocide in Gaza, as well as slogans against the Cypriot government's stance.
In a statement to the CYPE, a spokesman for the Gaza of Gaza Cyprus said that the protest concerns "the illegal interception of the world's" Sumud "fleet" Sumud "from Israel in international waters, while Israel holds the Gaza as a siege as a siege. They want to deliver baby milk to a hungry population, and who may well be faced with torture and humiliation in Israeli prisons, as Israeli prisons are known for it. "
He added that the protest is also "against the Cypriot government for failure to comply with the Opinion of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, according to which all states must do everything in their power to prevent Israel from committing genocide."
He said that "the Cypriot government has not offered a single drop of humanitarian help in an emergency, despite the close distance from the vessels due to the geographical location of Cyprus."
He also said that the choice of protesting a protest in front of the Foreign Ministry is a call to the government to change its stance and condemn Israel, but also to help the decoration or even future ornaments, stating with certainty that other missions would follow.
Asked if the mission from Cyprus will be attempted, he said that it would depend on the resources they will secure, but noting that this is the goal.
"States have a duty to protect citizens, prevent collective punishments and defend the right of the Palestinian people to self -determination," the World Movement for Gaza Cyprus notes, explaining that "by arresting the crew of Global Sumudilla and the Global Sumudilla They remain silent are complicit.
