In the fall of 2025, a historical event will take place in Cyprus - for the first time, women will be able to voluntarily undergo military service in the ranks of the National Guard.
The first oath is scheduled for October 30 and 31, 2025 and will be held in the training center of recruits in Limassol. According to the decision of the Government and the Ministry of Defense, girls aged 18 to 26 years will be able to submit an application (calls 2017–2025). Acceptance of applications will begin in the first week of October. Forms will be available on the official website of the Cyprus Ministry of Defense. Documents can be transferred to local military registration and enlistment office or sent by e -mail - the corresponding address will be published later.
On the first day of service, all recruits will undergo medical examinations to determine the suitability for service. Then the tenth basic preparation will begin, after which women will be able to choose a corps and a unit where they will serve.
The voluntary service of women in the National Guard will last at least six and no more than fourteen months. In the event of an early completion of the service, it will be necessary to file a dismissal application, leaving a weekly notification.
Women will be placed separately from men - in separate barracks, with access to individual sanitary zones and rest rooms. Each soldier will receive a monetary allowance of € 150 per month, as well as the right to leave - one and a half days for each month of service.
The introduction of voluntary military service for women was an important step in the development of the National Guard. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the purpose of innovation is not only strengthening the country's defense capabilities, but also expanding the opportunities for young people, including girls who want to experience themselves in the army.
