The heat will briefly give way to rain

On Monday 26 August, the Cyprus Meteorological Service again issued a yellow warning. This time the danger is not because of the heat, but because of thunderstorms and hail.

It is possible that the warning will be issued again on August 27.

The weather service explains that a combination of low pressure and unstable air masses in the region could lead to thunderstorms. So, yesterday there were heavy downpours in Nicosia, which is unusual for August in Cyprus.

On Tuesday, August 27, strong winds will blow across the island, with rain and thunderstorms possible in the mountains, inland areas and the southeast.

Temperatures will reach 37 degrees in the interior of Cyprus, 32 degrees in coastal areas and 28 degrees in mountainous areas.

There will be low clouds in the evening and fog will be possible in the morning hours.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the weather will be mostly clear. Cloudiness and light rain in the mountains are possible only in the afternoon.

On Wednesday and Thursday the temperature will be within the weather norm for August, and on Friday it will rise again and the heat will return to the island for a short time.

The text was prepared based on materials from Phileleftheros.

Meanwhile

The rains offer little hope of replenishing the island's water supplies, which are now significantly lower than last year. The first reason is drought, and the second is cases of irrational use of water resources, which are recorded regularly. More details at the link.
