For some car owners, the payment of road tax is not displayed in the online system of the road department due to a malfunction in it. For this reason, drivers can be fined by the police supposedly for non -payment of tax. The road department reacted to complaints.
A failure in the work of the online system has existed since the beginning of the year. The car owners paid for the road tax on the JCC portal, but the system system did not accept these payments. As a result, nothing suspecting drivers, from whom they also wrote off the amount of tax, could be fined by the police 85 euros, since the online system showed that they did not pay the tax.
“The problem arose during periods of increased user activity, mainly at the beginning of the tax payment, as well as in the last few days before its expiration,” the department said. It was caused by technical problems. The department assured that they were trying to solve the problem in cooperation with the Department of Information and Technological Services.
Car owners who paid the tax, but still received a fine, ask to directly contact the e -mail department [email protected].
The Filelefteros publication turned to the Minister of Transport Alexis Vafiadis. He stated that he would turn to the General Prosecutor to find a legal way to exempt drivers from paying an unfairly imposed fine.
The problem became known in the middle of summer, when the Cyprus police in her last campaign decided to use the license plate recognition system. The situation is complicated by the fact that in case of non -payment of a road owner’s road tax, in addition to a fine, a penalty is also applied for an expired payment.
