Fact-Check Cyprus participated in a workshop on Disinformation

Loukia Taxitari and Thanos Sitistas, Research Associates at the Anti-Disinformation Center "Fact-Check Cyprus", which was created by the Social Informatics Research Unit of TEPAK, participated in a workshop on "MISINFORMATION: Modern forms of propaganda and ways to deal with them".

The President of the Cyprus Radio and Television Authority, Mrs. Rona Kasapi, also participated in the meeting and addressed a greeting.

The conference was organized on Friday, October 18, 2024, by the National Radio and Television Council (NRC), the Athens Daily Newspaper Editors' Association (ESHEAA) and the Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO).

Academics and researchers discussed the phenomenon of disinformation in the modern era, the factors that make it difficult to deal with it, but also the tools that exist to combat it.

The representation of Cyprus at the conference aimed to highlight the current state of disinformation in the country, the common challenges it faces with Greece, as well as the mechanisms to deal effectively with it.

MedDMO aims to create a new Mediterranean partnership bringing together Cyprus, Greece and Malta in the fight against disinformation.

This is a two-and-a-half-year project, which started on 1 December 2022 and is funded by the European Commission's Digital Europe programme, to set up national digital media observatories, aiming to extend the reach of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). .

The project was presented last March in Limassol, by the Social Informatics Research Group of TEPAK and the Cyprus Radio and Television Authority.

The nine members of the consortium include the National Center for Research and Technological Development (EKETA) as the Project Coordinator, Athens Technology Center S.A., the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Times of Malta, the University of Malta , the Ellinika Hoaxes and the Agence France-Presse (AFP).
