At the Baylinson Medical Center (Clalit Group), a unique international operation was carried out: the heart donated in Cyprus was taken to Israel and transplanted the patient with severe heart failure. This is the first such case in three decades.
The transportation of the organ took less than 4 hours - the maximum time for its viability. The donor heart and lungs were seized in Nicosia, delivered by the charter flight to Israel with the assistance of the police, doctors and security services of the two countries.
The operation was attended by Dr. Yuri Paisakhovich, Dr. Ben Abraham, the operating nurse Mgadi Kabaa and the technician in the artificial circulation apparatus Sanian al-Haj.
Dr. Yuri Paisakhovich, Head of the Toracal Surgery Department in BailinSon:
“A living heart can be outside the body only 4 hours. At 10:30 we completed the seizure of the organ in Cyprus, and at 12:00 we were already in the operating room in Israel. This is a real salvation across the borders. "
The heart was transplanted by a 34-year-old woman, lungs-a 68-year-old patient with a serious respiratory system. Both women are in a stable state in the intensive care unit.
Dr. Tamar Ashkenazi, Director of the National Transplantation Center:
“On Saturday day, we received a letter with a proposal of donor organs from Cyprus colleagues. Further - lightning -otic medical analysis, coordination, search for an accessible aircraft (not easy at the height of the tourist season!), The design of customs and budgetary permits, the collection of the team ... and an incredible international response. Even when the driver broke in Cyprus, he was immediately replaced. The police helicopter brought the organs to the runway so as not to lose a minute. "
“This is cooperation with Cyprus - the continuation of many years of affiliate programs and exchanges. And it is built on genuine human warmth, generosity and respect for life. ”
