In the evening, on August 9, in Paralymni, the grand opening of the monument to Tasos Isaac and Solomos Soloma - the heroes who died in 1996 during the tragic events in Derinius took place.
The event collected about 700 bikers from all over Cyprus, as well as many residents and guests of the city.
The chairman of the parliament Anita Dimitriu made a speech. She emphasized that after 29 years the guilty of the murder of Isaac and the straw did not suffer punishment:
“They calmly killed two young people standing in front of them unarmed. Eleven arrest orders - six for the murder of Tasos and five for the murder of Solomos issued back in 1996 - remain unfulfilled, as Türkiye stubbornly refuses to fulfill them. "
The father of Tasos Isaac, Anastasia, also said touching treatment:
“On August 11, 1996, my father was scored to death in the dead Derinia zone. We all saw the frames of his murder - batons, stones and sticks. The killers are still at large, using our property, and we continue to live in the rotten illusion of the “normality” built on oblivion. We demand justice, the arrest of the killers and the way to liberation. These heroes unite us, and we will definitely return to Lapitos, Kirenia, Famagusta, Morf - where my father wanted to get. ”
The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Immigration Nicholas Ioannidis.
The monument was erected on the initiative of the municipality of Paralymni -Deerin. The sculptures of the work of Filippos Yapanis depict both heroes, and the monument itself is located next to the old paralymni stadium.
