A 25-year-old resident of Cyprus filed a shocking complaint with the police, claiming that she received threats to her address and to her family members from a 40-year-old man, with whom she had previously been on friendly relations.
According to the girl, the incident occurred in the evening of Sunday, June 22, on the beach in Germasoya, where the suspect allegedly approached her, began to shout that “she belongs to him,” and demanded that she leave with him. At the same time, he allegedly threatened to harm her relatives if she refuses, saying that he had a firearm with him.
Immediately after the incident, the woman turned to the police. In the statement, she indicated that she knew a man in general social circles, but there was never a romantic relationship between them. Over the past week, according to her, he allegedly pursued her, appearing in the places where she was, and persistently tried to achieve rapprochement.
According to the complaint, the same night the man forced her to get into his car under the pretext of “talking”, showing aggression and pressure. According to the applicant, after she got into the car, he began to go without saying where he was going. When she asked where they were going, he allegedly answered: "We get rid of excess."
At low speed, the woman opened the car door and jumped out. The suspect stopped and again began to threaten her. According to her, he opened the bag, and she saw in her an object resembling a pistol handle. She managed to run away and contact the police.
A 40-year-old man was detained on Monday morning, June 23, according to the judicial order. His house was searched, but during the examination, nothing illegal was found.
He appeared before the trial of Limassol, who decided to leave him in custody for one day. The detainee is under investigation on charges of illegal storage and transportation of firearms, threats of violence, as well as illegal observation and persecution. The suspect himself during the interrogation denies all the accusations.
The police continues the investigation. It is expected that additional testimonies will be collected and records from video surveillance cameras in areas where charged actions could take place.
