On Thursday, June 19, 16 Israeli citizens and two crew members from Cyprus were saved off the coast of Lebanon after their ship had an accident in the open sea due to the engine failure.
According to The Times of Israel with reference to the Israeli Ministry of Transport, the incident occurred about 25 sea miles west of the Lebanese port of Sid (Sidon). The vessel, following from Cyprus, the village is felled after a technical malfunction, leaving passengers without the ability to continue the way.
The Center for Coordination of Rescue Operations under the Ministry of Transport of Israel, together with the country's navy, came to the aid of the victims. All those on board were safely evacuated.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of large -scale attempts by the Israelis, who were abroad, to return home by sea. Due to the limited aircraft and the abolition of flights, thousands of Israeli citizens are looking for alternative routes for repatriation, including marine transport.
According to preliminary information, none of the passengers and crew members were injured. The ship will be towed to the nearest port for technical evaluation and repair.
